Welcome to Sky Writing

by Dylan Weiss | Oct 13, 2021 | Uncategorized | 1 comment

To all my family, friends, and curiosity seekers, a hearty welcome to “Sky Writing.” It’s under the pen name, Dylan Weiss, that I’m most comfortable sharing secrets and flights of fancy or, fantasy, which ever you prefer. My head has always been in the clouds, both figuratively and literally, fascinated by how they are shaped, moved by the wind and colored by the atmosphere. So, looking up, it is via a Sky Writing Banner that I intend to share my thoughts.

Like Amelia Earhart, my Mom brought me up to be different. To be, as she said, “A pace setter,” and my WWII paratrooper Dad crossed out the word “impossible” in our dictionary prompting me … “Just jump!”

So the red plane featured in my Blog illustration has two meanings. First it represents Electra, the name of Amelia Earhart’s plane. Interestingly, according to Google … Electra is Goddess of the sea and storm clouds that gather around islands near mountain summits. It is the name from which the word electricity is derived. What an apropos coincidence since electricity, a renewable resource, is my energy preference if not penchant! Added to that coincidence is my real name, Gail, which can also be spelled Gale … a big wind! WOW, love the word play! Secondly, the plane is symbolic of my Dad’s WWII jump during the invasion of Sicily in1943.

Fluttering from the plane is a banner upon which is written the title of my blog, “Sky Writing.” It’s within the pages of this landscape that I intend to reveal hidden meanings within my books as well as motivations which prompted me to write. By doing so, I hope to build a story within my stories. You know, that personal reason that all writers have re why they wrote what they wrote in the first place. So let’s start with the most frequently asked question … Why do I use a pen name?

What a wonderful pen name it is! I’m not so much interested in why you use a pen name — pretty obviously an aesthetic decision and one which will throw the bounty hunters off your trail. I’m more interested in how you came up with ‘Dylan Weiss’. What was the process?
